Wyoming Lottery Announces Retail Locations

Jul 30, 14 Wyoming Lottery Announces Retail Locations

July 30, 2014 – The Wyoming Lottery will start selling Powerball and Mega Millions tickets to would-be winners all across the state next month.  This week the Lottery released the names of 390 retail locations where lottery tickets will be sold starting Aug. 24.

“The excitement is pretty high as we work to notify and train retailers to sell tickets,” said Jon Clontz, Wyoming Lottery CEO, in an interview with the Cowboy State News Network.

“Our focus right now is on working hand-in-hand with retailers, holding retailer training sessions and testing the equipment so we can be ready on August 24,” Clontz said.

Government approval for a state-run lottery in Wyoming came about a year ago, but from the beginning legislators and members of the Wyoming Lottery Corporation – which will oversee lottery operations – have insisted they want to keep the lottery small.

“We’re not into scratch tickets or any kind of video lottery – anything that might be considered instant gratification,” said State Rep. David Zwonitzer, R, who sponsored the bill that created the Wyoming Lottery.

As a result, the national jackpot games Powerball and Mega Millions will be the only games offered by the fledgling lottery.

For players anxious to start testing their luck, there’s still a bit less than a month to wait.  However, now that the list of retailers has been released, it’s the perfect time to start planning where you’ll pick up that very first ticket.
