Dec. 21, 2015 — Happy Monday lottery players! Both the Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots rolled over last weekend, creating quite the jackpot for Powerball and making the Mega Millions jackpot even more attractive.
No one was able to match all six numbers for Powerball’s grand prize, which bumped the jackpot up to a whopping $227 million dollars! There were however, two states that had a winner in each for a million dollars and those states were: Montana and Oregon! The winner from Oregon chose the power play option which doubled their initial winnings to two million dollars! Apart from the second tier winners, more than nine hundred and forty-three thousand Powerball players took home prizes, together winning a total of about $9.5 million in non-jackpot prize money.
Mega Millions’ top prize continued growing after Friday’s drawing failed to produce a jackpot winner. The new jackpot has an estimated annuity value of $94 million, and carries with it a $58 million cash option.
While there were no jackpot winners, lots of players were lucky enough to take home non-jackpot prizes this weekend.
Friday’s Mega Millions drawing also made two new millionaires; one ticket from California and one from Kansas matched the five white numbers to win the $1 million second prize. Along with those winners, there were a little more than a million more players who were able to match a winning combination of numbers.
Congratulations to all of this weekend’s winners. Powerball and Mega Millions continue this week, starting Tuesday (December 22, 2015) with Mega Millions. Remember – you can’t win if you don’t play!
[Because California uses a pari-mutuel betting system for lottery games, the second prize winner in California will receive a different amount than what is shown above.
