Powerball Jackpot Won by Single Winner

Feb. 20, 2014 – Just one ticket matched all six numbers in Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing, winning the jackpot with an estimated value of more than $425 million.

The winning numbers drawn Wednesday night were 1, 17, 35, 49, 54 and the red Powerball was 34.  The Power Play multiplier drawn Wednesday was 3x, so third or lower-prize winning tickets with the Power Play option added will be worth three times their normal prize value.

The jackpot-winning ticket was sold in California, at Dixon Landing Chevron, 1551 California Cir. in Milpitas, just 12 miles from a lottery retailer where a recent Mega Millions jackpot was won.

By drawing time Wednesday night, the jackpot’s value had grown from about $400 to $425.3 million.  The cash value for the prize is more than $242 million.

There were millions of winners made in Wednesday’s Powerball drawing; nearly 2.7 million winning tickets were sold and more than $36 million in non-jackpot prizes were won.

Eighteen players matched all five white numbers to become new millionaires Wednesday.  There were two second prize winners each in California, Florida, Georgia, New York and Tennessee.

Seven other million-dollar tickets were sold in Arizona, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and West Virginia.

Just one ticket, which was sold in Texas, matched all five numbers and had the Power Play option added.  That winner will take home $2 million, the automatic second prize with Power Play.

Almost 150 Powerball players won the game’s other Match 5 prize Wednesday.  144 players in all matched four of the white numbers and the Powerall to win third prizes.

Sixteen of those third prize winners had added Power Play to their tickets and will receive $30,000 prizes, while the remaining 128 winners will receive Powerball’s normal $10,00o third prize.

Now that the jackpot has been hit, the top prize resets to its $40 million starting point for Saturday’s drawing, with an estimated $22.8 million cash value.

Saturday’s drawing will be held at 11 p.m., and as always, players can watch live on their smartphone with the free LotteryHUB app on iOS, Android and Windows Phone.
