Jan. 23, 2014 – No tickets matched all six numbers drawn in Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing, so the jackpot prize rolled over for the eight time since a Kansas City, Mo. couple won a $71.5 million jackpot Christmas Day.
The winning numbers drawn Wednesday night were 1, 2, 7, 9, 55 and the red Powerball was 29. The Power Play multiplier, which last night returned to a randomly drawn multiplier, was 3x.
There were more than 520,000 tickets sold for Wednesday’s drawing that matched a winning combination of the numbers drawn. About $7.3 million in non-jackpot prizes were won on the draw.
Three of those winners were lucky enough to match all five white numbers drawn Wednesday night to win Powerball’s $1 million second prize.
Those three winning tickets were sold in California, Indiana, and New York. Because California awards prizes on a pari-mutuel basis, prize values can vary. California’s second-prize winner won a $347,092 prize on Wednesday’s Powerball drawing.
An impressive 54 Powerball players won one of the game’s third prizes Wednesday night, eight of them choosing to try out the new Power Play multiplier. Because the drawn multiplier was 3x, they’ll receive $30,000 second prizes.
After its eighth rollover, the jackpot now sits at an estimated $152 million, carrying an approximate cash value of $85.6 million for Saturday night’s Powerball drawing.
