March 27, 2014 – No tickets matched all six winning numbers in Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing so the jackpot – which had reset to $40 million after a Missouri player won more than $96 million Saturday – grew to $50 million.
The winning numbers drawn Wednesday night were 28, 33, 41, 44, 59 and the red Powerball was 21. The Power Play multiplier was 2x, so players who won a prize and had the optional multiplier added to their tickets will receive twice the normal prize amount.
Three Powerball players became millionaires overnight Wednesday. Tickets sold in Minnesota, New York and Vermont all matched the first five numbers drawn, winning Powerball’s $1 million second prize.
Ten other players won a third prize by matching four of the white numbers and the red Powerball. Seven of those winners will receive the normal $10,000 prize, while three others added Power Play to their tickets and will receive $20,000 third prizes.
Overall there were about 371,000 winners who altogether won more than $5.1 million in non-jackpot prizes. Nearly 65,000 players spent an extra $1 on the Power Play option for Wednesday’s drawing, pulling in about $660,000 of the night’s total prize payout.
Saturday’s drawing, which will be held at 11 p.m. EDT, will feature an estimated $50 million annuity jackpot with a cash value of about $28.7 million.
