Sept. 1, 2013 – The Powerball jackpot grew more than $25 million overnight Saturday after rolling over for a seventh time. Ahead of Wednesday night’s drawing, the estimated jackpot sits at $169 million.
The winning numbers drawn Saturday were 2, 7, 25, 40, 56, and the red Powerball was 20. While nobody was able to match all six winning numbers, there were four people whose tickets matched all five white balls correctly.
Two of those winners, from Minnesota and New Jersey, won $1 million while the other two Match 5 winners, from Montana and Texas, added the PowerPlay option to their tickets for an extra $1. That means their second-tier prizes will double, and they can call themselves multi-millionaires with their $2 million wins.
Overall, Saturday night’s Powerball drawing made 808,987 winners who collectively raked in $11,693,009.
Many players chose to add the PowerPlay option to their tickets this week, and that extra dollar paid off in a big way – PowerPlay winners pulled in almost $200,000 more in prizes this week, despite being outnumbered by almost 700,000! (Talk about stretching an extra dollar!)
As we inch ever closer to the $200 million mark, when office pools really ramp up and ticket-buying frenzies begin, don’t forget that $169 million is definitely life-changing. No need to wait another $30 million – buy those tickets now.
