March 20, 2014 – Six players became millionaires Wednesday night, but nobody won the Powerball jackpot. The big prize rolled over for the fifth time since a California player won a $60 million jackpot March1. Ahead of Saturday’s drawing, the Powerball jackpot is worth an estimated $96 million.
The winning numbers drawn Wednesday night were 2, 19, 23, 34, 43 and the red Powerball was 14. The Power Play multiplier drawn Wednesday night was 2x, so players who added the optional multiplier and won a prize will receive twice the normal prize value.
The six new millionaires, who matched all five white numbers Wednesday night, bought their tickets in California, Indiana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Texas. None of the big winners chose to add the Power Play option to their tickets, which would have won them $2 million second prizes.
Because the California Lottery pays lottery prizes on a pari-mutuel basis, where prize amounts vary depending on the number of total players and winners, the new Powerball millionaire there will receive a second prize worth about $2.2. million.
Eighteen players matched four white numbers and the Powerball Wednesday to win third prizes, including seven players who added Power Play to their tickets. Those seven players will receive $20,000 third prizes, while the 11 others won Powerball’s normal $10,000 third prize.
There were almost 470,000 winners in all Wednesday night. Together all those winning tickets are now worth more than $8.9 million. Power Play wins accounted for about $900,000 of that total take, and $6 million went to the top six winners.
Saturday’s drawing will feature an estimated $96 million jackpot with a cash value worth about $55 million. Players looking for their chance to hit it rich should remember to pick up their tickets before sales close on Saturday evening.
