Powerball Jackpot Grows to $150 Million

April 21, 2014 – Nobody won the $130 million Powerball jackpot Saturday night, so the top prize rolled over again, swelling to an estimated $150 million ahead of Wednesday night’s drawing.

The winning numbers drawn Saturday were 5, 6, 29, 35, 51 and the red Powerball was 21.  Saturday’s Power Play multiplier was 5x, the highest-possible Power Play number, which will multiply third or lower prizes fivefold for players who added the option to their tickets before the drawing.

Along with an absent jackpot winner, there were also no tickets matching all five white numbers to win second prizes.  This also happened in Friday’s Mega Millions drawing, meaning that no new millionaires were made in this weekend’s big jackpot drawings.

But, also like Friday’s Mega Millions results, there plenty of Powerball players who won third prizes Saturday night by matching four of the white numbers and the red Powerball.

Twenty-three third-prize winners will receive Powerball’s normal $10,000 third prize for their five-out-of-six winning combination, while two other players added Power Play to their third-prize winning tickets, securing $50,000 prizes.

Despite the lack of a jackpot winner or any new millionaires, Saturday’s Powerball drawing made almost 100,000 more winners than the average for the past month.

More than 575,000 players won one of the game’s eight non-jackpot prizes for a total prize haul of more than $4.8 million.

Thanks to the 5x Power Play multiplier Saturday, players who spent an extra buck on the optional multiplier collectively won almost half of all the prize money won Saturday, more than $2.25 million.

Wednesday’s drawing for the estimated $150 million annuity jackpot, which carries an $87.6 million cash value, will be held at 11 p.m. EDT.

Players looking for their chance to win big need to buy their tickets before sales close ahead of the drawing; to see how late you can buy Powerball tickets in your state, check this post.
