Powerball Jackpot Climbs Past $100 Million

Oct. 7, 2013 – There were no tickets that matched all six Powerball numbers drawn Saturday night, so the jackpot rolled over again, swelling $20 million to sit at an estimated $108 million ahead of Wednesday’s drawing.

While nobody could match all six numbers – 11, 12, 17, 39, 40, and the red Powerball 5 – there were five Match 5 winners who became millionaires Saturday.

Those five winning tickets were sold in California, Iowa, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island.  None of those players chose to add the Powerplay option to their tickets, which for $1 extra would have doubled their $1 million second prizes.

Eight lucky third-prize winners did spend the extra buck on Powerplay, quadrupling their third-tier prizes from $10,000 to $40,000.  Another 29 players won third-tier prizes for a total of 37 winners who were able to match four white balls and the red Powerball.

In all, nearly 620,000 people won a prize playing Powerball Saturday, for a total payout of $9,460,272 in prize money.
