June 12, 2014 – One very lucky ticket matched all six winning numbers drawn in Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing, making that ticket worth a whopping $259.8 million today.

The jackpot-winning ticket was sold in Knoxville, Tenn., and the giant prize is the largest jackpot ever won there.  It is also the second big win for the state this year; in January, a mother and son claimed a $61 million Mega Millions jackpot.

Wednesday night’s winner has 180 days to come forward with the ticket and claim their prize.  Should they choose a one-time, lump sum payment, the cash value of their jackpot is worth $153.5 million, before taxes.

Wednesday night’s winning numbers were 14, 18, 25, 33, 49 and the red Powerball was 23.

The Power Play multiplier drawn Wednesday was 5x, the highest multiplier possible.  Players who spent an extra buck on the Power Play option and won third or lower prizes will receive five times the normal prize amount.

Along with the big jackpot winner, four other players became millionaires overnight after matching five white numbers but missing the Powerball.  Second-prize winning tickets each worth $1 million were sold in Illinois, Massachusetts, New York and Pennsylvania.

Forty-three other players came just as close to winning the jackpot, matching a different five-out-of-six winning combination – four white numbers and the Powerball – to win third prizes Wednesday.

Five of those winners had added the Power Play option to their tickets and will receive $50,000 prizes.  The other 38 third-prize winners will receive the normal $10,000 prize amount.

There were a lot of people hoping to win big Wednesday night, and picking up a ticket paid off for more than 1 million players who won a prize.

Altogether, non jackpot winners scored more than $12.1 million in prize money Wednesday night, an impressive haul for lower-prize winners since only a third of that total went to second-prize winners.

Now that the jackpot has been won, Powerball’s top prize will reset to its $40 million starting point for Saturday night’s drawing.

While it’s no $259 million, $40 million is more than enough to be called “life-changing.”  For your chance to hit the jackpot, be sure to pick up a ticket before Powerball sales close ahead of Saturday’s draw.  For a state-by-state list of sales closing times, click here.
