The “Office Pool” is a tried-and-true method for beating the odds in the lottery and having some fun with your co-workers, even if it means splitting a big win.
In Spencer, Iowa, strength in numbers paid off for the second time in two years, when a group of 50 hydraulics workers claimed their second $10,000 prize Thursday.
Their numbers matched four white balls and the Mega Ball in the April 23 Mega Millions drawing. Nobody was able to match all the numbers for the $92 million jackpot. The Mega Millions jackpot currently sits at $139 million.
The “Eaton Team Lotto” from Eaton Hydraulics, Inc. has been playing together for about 16 years. Both of their $10,000 prizes were won on the Mega Millions game.
Three of the fifty coworkers represented the group at the Iowa Lottery office to claim their prize. Dale Schomaker, part of Eaton Team Lotto, made memorable copies of the ticket and receipt for his coworkers.
All told, each member of Eaton Team Lotto can expect about $150 after taxes. Even though it’s not money to retire on, the team’s win will keep them in good spirits. “They were fairly excited to win anything,” says Schomaker.
