Oregon Lottery offers “Buy One, Get One Free”

May 13, 2013 – Hoping to keep lottery interest high after someone wins a jackpot, the Oregon Lottery is offering limited-time “buy one, get one free” deals for Powerball players.

The promotional deal is only available after someone wins the jackpot for the multi-state Powerball game.

Once the jackpot resets to $40 million, Oregon Lottery players who buy a $2 or $3 Powerball ticket will be eligible to receive a Mega Millions ticket for free.

The “buy one, get one” offer only lasts for the three or four days between the jackpot reset and the next Powerball drawing.  The drawings for Powerball are on Wednesday and Saturday nights each week.

Lottery ticket sales generally spike once jackpots climb near $300 million, but as the Oregon Lottery’s Assistant Director of Sales and Marketing, Stacy Shaw, says, “$40 million is still $40 million.”

“With past jackpots getting as high as $500 million, the ‘lower’ jackpot amounts like $40 million, are seemingly small to players,” Shaw said.

While everyone wants to win record-setting jackpots, Shaw says the Oregon Lottery hopes to “showcase the lower, but certainly not small, jackpot levels and get players excited about playing for a chance to win any jackpot.”

The current Powerball jackpot sits at $350 million, the third largest ever, and the Mega Millions jackpot sits at $170 million.
