Ohio Ticket Hits Powerball Jackpot

Jul 10, 14 Ohio Ticket Hits Powerball Jackpot

July 10, 2014 – A Powerball ticket sold in Ohio matched all six numbers in Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing, winning a jackpot worth an estimated $124.9 million, with a lump-sum cash option of about $73 million.

Wednesday’s was the seventh drawing since the last Powerball jackpot, worth about $260 million, was won by Roy Cockrum in Tennessee.

The winning numbers drawn Wednesday night were 9, 25, 42, 55, 57 and the Powerball was 14.  The Power Play multiplier in the drawing was 2x, so players who added the optional multiplier to their tickets and won a prize will receive twice the normal prize value.

Along with Wednesday night’s jackpot winner, just one other player can call themselves a multi-millionaire after Wednesday’s drawing.  A ticket sold in North Carolina with the Power Play option added matched all five white numbers but missed the Power ball to win a second prize worth $2 million.

Three other winners were also lucky enough to match all five white numbers drawn.  Those three tickets were sold in Florida, Georgia and New Jersey, and each player will receive the normal $1 million second prize.

Twenty-two other players were also lucky enough to match five out of the six winning numbers, though they aren’t millionaires today.

For matching four white numbers and the Powerball, 21 of these winners will receive Powerball’s $10,000 third prize.  There was one third-prize winner who added the Power Play option to their ticket; they won a $20,000 third prize.

Along with the jackpot winner in Ohio, Wednesday night’s drawing made winners of more than 547,000 Powerball players.  All those non-jackpot winners managed to score more than $8.2 million in non-jackpot prizes.

Now that the jackpot was won, Powerball’s top prize will reset to its $40 million starting point, with a cash value of about $23 million.

While that might not look so big next to the $125 million prize that was just won, $40 million is a life-changing amount of money!  And, when the jackpots are “small” less people stop for a ticket, so the odds are better that a single winner will take the whole prize.

Your next chance to hit the jackpot is Saturday night.  The drawing will be held at 11 p.m. EDT, but sales close before that.  For a state-by-state list of Powerball sales cutoff times, read this post – be sure to pick up your ticket before it’s too late.

Good luck!
