New York lunchlady wins $2 million
Joyce Wood from Hammond, New york is a beloved lunchlady and now winner of $2 million from Powerball.
Wood purchased her second Powerball ticket in 15 years from Kinney Drugs on Canton St in Hammond, NY on May 20 for the May 21 drawing. Wood won $2 million from Match 5 with Power play, when she was able to match all the numbers except the ever-elusive Power Ball.
Earlier in the week, Wood had won $107 from Powerball and decided to push her luck to try for another win. She bought 5 sets of Quick Pick tickets for the $40 million jackpot on May 21 with the Power Play option. Her choice ended up paying off, producing her second win of the month worth $2 million.
Wood could barely believe she had won that much money, saying it was hard to imagine that much money. The 74-year-old cafeteria worker will receive a lump sum $1,323,600 after taxes are deducted. This lucky lunchlady now plans to play Powerball more often, believing her luck could continue.
Wood and her husband Lynn are going to take their time to decide what to do with their winnings. They live in Hammond and often travel to their home in Florida to see their 7 children, 13 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. Wood has barely had time to grasp the fact she won, with her phone constantly ringing, which does not bother Wood in the least.
This lunchlady has no plans yet, but is very excited to find out what to do with her recent good luck with Powerball.
