New Jersey Recognizes Second-Tier Winners

May 31, 2013 – In a press release this morning, the New Jersey Lottery reminded players and fans that while multi-million jackpot winners often get all the attention, instant-ticket winners quietly rake in huge winnings all year.

The April figures the Lottery released Friday speak to the success of New Jersey players on scratch-off tickets.  In April alone, scratch-off players collected a total of $8,351,000 in instant-win prizes!

While most of the winners scratched off $10,000 prizes, two lucky players won $850,000 prizes with New Jersey’s Win for Life game, which costs only $3 to play but pays winners $1,000 a week for life!

Seven New Jersey players – remember this is in April 2013 alone – won prizes of $650,000 on the games Diamond Spectacular, $1,000,000 Spectacular, or $100,000,000 Spectacular.  Those games cost either $10 or $20.

The Lottery also wanted to recognize the often-unnoticed winnings that retailers rake in.  Each time a scratch-off wins a top prize, retailers collect a 2.5 percent commission from the New Jersey Lottery.

Given the $8,351,000 collected by prize winners, that 2.5 percent means that the New Jersey Lottery was able to give $208,775 back to New Jersey businesses through commission.

Everyone dreams about winning that record jackpot with Powerball or in-state draw games, but there’s plenty of money to be won with nearly 70 scratch-off games offered in New Jersey.

So, as the New Jersey Lottery‘s slogan goes – “Give Your Dreams A Chance”!
