Nebraska Lottery celebrates 20 years of success

The Nebraska Lottery is celebrating 20 years of providing for the state of Nebraska with award winning marketing campaigns and over $488 million given back to the state.

In November 1992, the Nebraska Lottery was approved by 63% of voters to amend the state constitution to allow a lottery for the state. The Lottery was passed in the Legislature on Feb 24, 1993, making it the 37th state lottery in the United States. The Nebraska Lottery is a member of the Multi-State Lottery Association, MUSL, and provides both multi-state games Mega Millions and Powerball.

The Nebraska Lottery offers  6 draw games as well as the ever-popular scratch-off games. The draw games available include Mega Millions, Powerball, 2 By 2, Pick 3, Pick 5, and My Day. Powerball drawings are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays and Mega Millions drawings are held on Tuesdays and Fridays. Pick 3, Pick 5, and My Day drawings are held Monday through Saturday, and 2 By 2 drawings are held daily. These games are available for anyone 19 and up to play, even if they don’t live in the Cornhusker State.

In May 2013, the Nebraska Lottery received an award for their marketing campaign by the 2013 Omaha American Marketing Association’s Pinnacle Award. They were named the Best Marketing Campaign for a Large Business. This helped the Nebraska Lottery prove that their first 20 years have provided the state with more revenue for beneficiaries such as Education, Compulsive Gambling, and the Environment.

In 20 years the Nebraska Lottery has made almost $2 billion in sales, totaling 1.79 billion before the 2012-2013 Fiscal Year. The lottery directors are proud to celebrate 20 years, and look forward to what the next 20 years will bring for both the lottery and the state of Nebraska.
