Jan. 15, 2015 – Montana’s newest millionaire came forward Tuesday to claim the top prize from the Montana Millionaire Raffle. Russell Miller, from Kalispell, had the lucky ticket that beat 1 in 130,000 odds to net him the $1 million prize.
Miller told Lottery officials that he only plays occasionally, but bought two tickets for this year’s Montana Millionaire, the first of which was worth the $1 million.
He said that he saw the winning numbers in the newspaper and checked his tickets against the ones in print, then to be sure his “eyes weren’t playing tricks,” he had his wife double check.
That was just three days after the drawing, and since then Miller has been “following [the] game plan” that he’s dreamed of in the past.
“I’ve been thinking about winning something more than five or ten dollars, and thought in my mind over and over how I would initially handle it,” he said.
A part of that plan includes donating some of the windfall to charity, “organizations we’ve given to in the past,” Miller said.
As for the rest of the money, he didn’t tell the Lottery he had any specific plans, simply saying “we won’t be sitting on it.”
Along with Miller’s $1 million top prize, the Montana Millionaire drawing also awarded two $100,000 prizes and three $10,000 prizes.
Two of the three $10,000 prizes have yet to be claimed; to check the winning numbers, visit the Montana Millionaire webpage.
