The Missouri Lottery has finished calculating the sales for the 2012-2013 fiscal year and has released that sales break the record with a total of $1.14 billion in sales for the fiscal year that ended June 30.
Like many lotteries seeing record sales and higher revenues this past year, the Missouri Lottery is reporting a 4% increase in sales revenue for the 2012-2013 fiscal year. This is the third consecutive year that the Missouri Lottery has generated more than $1 billion in sales. Sales for the 2011-2012 fiscal year reached nearly $1.1 billion in sales. This year’s sales of $1.14 billion exceed that by nearly $40 million.
Similar to many other lotteries, the Missouri attributes a great portion of its successful year to higher jackpots from the multi-state lottery game, Powerball. Powerball jackpots have risen quickly in the past year, reaching record heights and generating a higher interest in Powerball and state lotteries. Powerball’s higher jackpots come after a revamp in January 2012 that provided for higher payouts and more ways to win with Powerball.
Director for the Missouri Lottery believes sales beat the record with help from a successful advertising campaign and new loyalty program as well as Powerball hype. The Missouri Lottery’s newest advertising campaign focuses on how the lottery benefits education and encourages people to “Play it Forward” to provide more revenue for education programs in the state. This year the Missouri Lottery was able to transfer record proceeds to education for the third year in a row. This year’s proceeds totaled more than $288 million, beating the previous year by more than $8 million.
Additionally, the Missouri Lottery launched their new Loyalty Program, My Lottery Players Club. The Players Club is a free service through the Missouri Lottery website that gives players the chance to customize their lottery experience. Members can receive e-mail updates, exclusive ticket coupons, register their favorite numbers and more.
The Missouri Lottery is proud to boast 3 straight years of success and hopes to continue this streak for the coming fiscal year.
