N.H. Mega Millions Winner Claims $5 Million Prize

March 25, 2014 – Keene, New Hampshire is home to the winner of the largest-ever Mega Millions prize claimed in the state.  John Walker on Monday claimed the $5 million second-prize he won last Friday.

Walker matched the first five winning numbers in the Friday, March 21 Mega Millions drawing – 2, 23, 30, 35, 53 – to win the game’s second prize.

That prize is normally worth $1 million, but because Walker spent an extra $1 on the optional Megaplier multiplier, his prize was multiplied five-fold Friday night.

The new multi-millionaire purchased his winning ticket at the Park Avenue Deli and Market in Keene.  The store will receive a $30,000 commission for selling the big winning ticket.

As for Walker, he’ll take home $3.75 million after taxes, according to a New Hampshire Lottery press release.

“It is so thrilling to have a big winning ticket like this sold in New Hampshire,” said Charlie McIntyre, executive director of the New Hampshire Lottery, in a press release.

And Walker’s wasn’t the only big win in the past week.  Another New Hampshire player, Paula Giuffrida, won a $1 million prize playing Powerball last week.
