July 24, 2013 – The Mega Millions jackpot is slowly making its way out of its teens, rolling over for a second time last night to reach $19 million ahead of Friday’s drawing.
Though nobody was able to match last night’s numbers – 25, 32, 35, 50, 51, and Mega Ball 46 – there were a total of 319,620 winning tickets sold at any prize amount.
11 of those tickets were worth $10,000 or more, depending on whether the players holding them also purchased the Megaplier option for an extra $1, which last night would have tripled their winnings (Megaplier x3).
One third prize-winning ticket was sold in California which, due to the state’s pari-mutuel payout system, was worth just over $31,000.
And the biggest winner made on last night’s drawing was another lucky California Mega Millions player, who was able to match the five white balls but not the Mega Ball.
That player raked in $481,220 with California’s pari-mutuel payout for the second prize.
In all, Mega Millions paid out $1,882,323 to winners last night, not accounting for those tickets with the Megaplier option added.
With the big second-prize winner boosting their state’s total winnings last night, Californians collectively won $715,464 – about 38 percent of all the money won on the Tuesday drawing.
