Mega Millions Rolls Over April 22

April 23, 2014 – The Mega Millions jackpot continued to grow after nobody was able to claim the top prize Tuesday.  Ahead of Friday night’s drawing, the jackpot has an estimated value of $59 million, up about $11 million from Tuesday’s estimate.

Tuesday night’s winning Mega Millions numbers were 2, 18, 19, 49, 50 and the Mega Ball was 1.  The Megaplier drawn Tuesday was 3x, so players who spent an extra buck on the optional multiplier and won a prize will see three times the normal prize amount.

Tuesday’s was the second consecutive drawing in which nobody won a second prize to become a millionaire.  The drought in second prize winners is unusual for Mega Millions, which has, on average, made about four new millionaires each week since the game’s rules changed in October.

While nobody matched all five white numbers, there were 21 players who were able to match four white numbers and the Mega Ball to win third prizes Tuesday night.

Two of those third-prize winners had added the Megaplier option to their tickets and will receive $5,000 prizes.  The other 19 will receive Mega Millions’ normal $5,000 third prize.

Overall, more than 1 million Mega Millions players won about $2.3 million in non-jackpot prizes Tuesday night.  About 115,000 winners had the Megaplier option added to their tickets and together won more than $630,000 of the total prize winnings for Tuesday.

Friday’s drawing will be held at 11 p.m. EDT, and will feature the estimated $59 million annuity jackpot, which carries with it a cash value of about $33 million.

Players looking to nab the big jackpot prize – or even to break the drought on second-prize winners – will need to buy their Mega Millions tickets before sales close ahead of Friday’s drawings.  For a state-by-state list of sales cutoff times, read this post.
