Mega Millions Nears $300 Million

March 5, 2014 – The Mega Millions jackpot grew again Tuesday night after no players were able to match all six winning numbers drawn.  Ahead of Friday’s drawing, the jackpot has an estimated value of $270 million.

The winning Mega Millions numbers drawn Tuesday night were 10, 29, 31, 35, 45 and the Mega Ball was 10.  Tuesday’s Megaplier was 2x, so players who won a prize on a ticket with Megaplier added will receive double the normal prize value.

Though nobody was able to hit the jackpot Tuesday night, there were plenty of other winners – nearly 3 million in all.

The biggest winners in Tuesday’s drawing all came from California.  Three tickets matched all five white numbers drawn to win Mega Millions’ second prize.

Because California pays lottery prizes on a pari-mutuel basis, where prize amounts vary depending on the number of players and the number of winners, each of the three second-prize winners will receive about $420,000.

Tuesday was a big night for third-prize winners; nearly twice as many players won a third prize Tuesday as compared to Friday’ night’s drawing.

There were 76 tickets sold matching four white balls and the Mega Ball to win Mega Millions’ third prize.  Four of those tickets also had the Megaplier option added, and are now worth $10,000.

The other 72 third-prize winners will receive Mega Millions’ normal $5,000 third prize.

Overall there were more than 2,980,000 winners Tuesday night who won more than $7.29 million in non-jackpot prize money.  About 275,000 players chose to play Mega Millions with Megaplier Tuesday, and Megaplier winners collected just over $1 million in prizes.

Friday night’s drawing will be held at a 11 p.m. EST.  The drawing will feature the estimated $270 million annuity jackpot, which carries a cash value of about $151 million.
