Mega Millions Jackpot Rolls Tuesday

April 16, 2014 – Nobody was able to match all six winning numbers in Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing, so the jackpot prize rolled over to an estimated $38 million ahead of Friday night’s drawing.

Tuesday’s winning Mega Millions numbers were 4, 39, 46, 47, 70 and the Mega Ball, 13.  The Megaplier drawn Tuesday night was 3x, so players who added the optional multiplier to their tickets and won a prize will receive three times the normal prize value.

One lucky ticket matched all five white numbers drawn Tuesday to win Mega Millions’ second prize.

That winning ticket was sold in California, where lottery prizes are paid on a pari-mutuel basis.  This means prize values can vary depending on the total number of players and the number of winners.  Tuesday’s second-prize winner will receive about $320,000 for matching the first five numbers.

There were 22 players who also matched five out of six numbers – four white numbers and the Mega Ball – to win third prizes Tuesday night.  Three of these winners had added the Megaplier option to their ticket and will recieve $15,000 prizes;  the other 19 third-prize winners will receive $5,000.

Altogether there were more than 1.1 million tickets that matched a winning combination of Tuesday’s numbers.  All those winners collectively won almost $3.4 million, including about $688,000 won with Megaplier.

Players can take their next shot at the jackpot Friday night, at 11 p.m. EDT.  The estimated $38 million annuity carries with it a cash value worth about $21 million.
