April 9, 2014 – The Mega Millions jackpot grew from $15 to an estimated $20 million Tuesday night. Though nobody was able to match the six winning numbers to win the jackpot, about 1.1 million players won one of Mega Millions’ non-jackpot prizes.
Tuesday’s winning numbers were 35, 36, 41, 60, 71 and the Mega Ball was 3. The Megaplier drawn Tuesday was 3x, so players who added the multiplier to their tickets and won a prize will receive three times the normal prize value.
Though nobody hit the jackpot, one player did become a millionaire Tuesday night. A ticket sold in New York matched all five white numbers drawn to win a Mega Millions second prize, worth $1 million.
Fifteen other players matched five of the six numbers drawn – four white numbers and the Mega Ball – to win third prizes Tuesday night. Two of those winning tickets had the Megaplier option added and are worth $15,000. The other 13 third-prize winners will each receive $5,000 prizes.
Altogether, 1.1 million players won more than $3.2 million in non-jackpot prizes. About $630,000 of that total was won by the 131,000 players who added the Megaplier option to their tickets.
The estimated $20 million annuity jackpot carries with it a cash value of about $11 million. For a chance to win that life-changing sum, you’ve gotta play. Check this post to see how late you can buy Mega Millions tickets on the day of the draw.
