Oct. 9, 2013 – Nobody matched all six numbers drawn in the Mega Millions game Tuesday, so the jackpot rolled over for the second time since one Maryland ticket won a $189 million jackpot Oct. 1.
The estimated value of the annuity jackpot now sits at $22 million ahead of the Friday night drawing, growing by $8 million Tuesday night. The numbers drawn were 6, 15, 19, 23, 40, and the Mega Ball was 5. The Megaplier drawn Tuesday was 3x.
Four tickets came closer than any to matching all six numbers for the jackpot, but all four missed the Mega Ball. Those winners, in Arizona, California, North Carolina, and Virginia, can all claim second prizes.
The California winner will collect just over $249,000 from their Mega Millions win, because the California Lottery plays all of its draw games on a pari-mutuel basis, where payout depends on the number of bettors.
For the other three Match 5 winners, their $250,000 second prizes could be worth an automatic $1 million if any of them chose to add the Megaplier option to their ticket for just $1 extra.
Overall, about 420,000 winning tickets from Tuesday’s drawing earned more than $2.83 million, though that figure does not reflect tickets with the Megaplier option added.
