Mega Millions Jackpot Reaches $400 Million

March 16, 2014 – The Mega Millions jackpot grew to an estimated $400 million – with a $224 million cash value – after nobody matched the six winning numbers drawn Friday night.

Friday’s winning numbers were 7, 20, 40, 54, 69 and the Mega Ball was 12.  The Megaplier drawn Friday night was 3x, so players who added the Megaplier option to their tickets and won will receive three times the normal prize value.

Though nobody scooped the giant jackpot Friday night there were five new millionaires made on the drawing.  Two winners from Ohio and one each from Arkansas, Florida and Virginia all matched the five white numbers drawn but missed the Mega Ball.

Three of the five second-prize winners added the Megaplier option to their tickets, so they’ll each receive $3 million prizes thanks to Mega Millions’ multiplier.

The other two second-prize winners will each receive the normal $1 million second prize.

Another 97 players also matched five out of six numbers Friday night – four white numbers and the Mega Ball – to win third prizes.

Ten of these third-prize winners had the Megaplier option added to their tickets and will receive $15,000 prizes while the other 87 winners will receive the normal $5,000 Mega Millions third prize.

Big jackpots mean more players and lots of winners, and Friday night was no exception.  Nearly 5 million players won one of the nine prizes available in Mega Million, raking in a total of more than $21 million in non-jackpot prizes.

Just more than 400,000 of the 4.89 million winners added Megaplier to their tickets, but those winners collectively won about $11.2 million of Friday night’s total winnings.

The next drawing, which will be held at 11 p.m. Tuesday night, is likely to attract still more attention around the country, meaning we could see even more winners after Tuesday’s drawing.
