Feb. 16, 2014 – Nobody won the Mega Millions jackpot Friday night, so the prize rolled over to reach an estimated $154 million ahead of Tuesday’s drawing.
The winning numbers drawn Friday night were 20, 28, 35, 71, 72 and the Mega Ball was 7. Friday’s Megaplier was 3x, so winning tickets with Megaplier added will be worth three times their normal prize value.
Two tickets sold ahead of Friday night’s drawing matched all five white numbers drawn to win Mega Millions’ $1 million second prize. One ticket was sold and New York, the other in California.
Because California pays lottery prizes on a pari-mutuel basis, prize values can vary depending on the number of winners in a game. California’s second-prize winner Friday night will receive a prize worth about $505,000.
Nearly 30 other players matched five numbers drawn – four white numbers and the Mega Ball – to win Mega Millions’ third prize. Just one of those third-prize winners had added the Megaplier option to their ticket, so they won a $15,000 prize.
The other 26 third-prize winners will receive the normal $5,000 prize amount.
Altogether, more than 1.85 million players won a Mega Millions prize Friday night, collectively winning nearly $5.7 million.
Tuesday night’s Mega Millions jackpot is worth an estimated $154 million, with a cash value of $84 million. The drawing will be held at 11 p.m. EST. To see how late you can buy Mega Millions tickets, read this post.
