Mega Millions Jackpot Grows to $172 Million

Feb. 19, 2014 – Nobody matched all six winning numbers in Tuesday night’s Mega Millions drawing, so the jackpot prize rolled over again, reaching an estimated $172 million ahead of Friday night’s drawing.

The winning numbers drawn Tuesday night were 23, 29, 31, 37, 70 and the Mega Ball was 14.  Tuesday’s Megaplier, which multiplies non-jackpot prizes by the number drawn, was 5x.

While nobody was able to match all six numbers to win the jackpot, one player did become a new millionaire Tuesday after matching all five of the white numbers drawn.  That second-prize winning ticket was sold in Florida.

Thirty one other Mega Millions players matched five numbers Tuesday as well – the Mega Ball and four white numbers – to win third prizes.  28 of those players will receive the normal $5,000 third prize.

The other three winning tickets had the Megaplier option added to them, so those winners will receive $25,000 third prizes.

In total, Tuesday night’s Mega Millions drawing made nearly 2 million players winners – there were more than 1,950,000 winning tickets sold.  Altogether, those winners raked in more than $5.7 million in prize money, including about $1.6 million in Megaplier winnings.

Friday’s drawing will feature an estimated $172 million annuity jackpot with about a $94 million cash value.  Read this post to see how late you can buy tickets Friday before the big drawing.
