June 7, 2013 -“They should call us the Feeding Hillbillies, just like the Beverly Hillbillies,” said Craig Dore, Sr. after claiming his $10 million prize Wednesday.
The 60-year-old resident of Feeding Hills, Mass. is the first winner of the grand prize in the Massachusetts Lottery’s newest game, $10,000,000 Multiplier Spectacular, which launched in April this year.
The $20 scratch-off ticket had five grand prizes – now four after Dore’s win – and the overall odds of winning any of the prizes offered from $20 on up is about 1 in 3.
Dore told the Lottery that he is a self-employed contractor, and after paying off his mortgage and the car payments for himself and his wife, Christina, he’ll invest the remainder of his $6.5 million lump-sum payment, and maybe retire early.
After taxes are taken out of his lump sum, Dore can probably expect a check for $4.5 million.
He told The Republican, a Massachusetts newspaper, that he was still in shock over the big win.
“It’s not even sinking in yet. You always think, ‘What if I win,’ but you never expect it to happen,” he said.
