Mass. Man Wins Double Lucky for Life Prizes

Oct 28, 14 Mass. Man Wins Double Lucky for Life Prizes

Oct. 28, 2014 – Kenneth Stokes is the luckiest guy in Norwood, Mass. this week after he picked up not one but two Lucky For Life second prizes last week.

On Monday, Oct. 20, Stokes played his regular Lucky for Life numbers, all six representing a birthday for one of his family members.

What Stokes forgot was that his family had recently bought him Massachusetts Lottery season tickets with the exact same numbers as those on his fresh new ticket.

Tuesday morning, he got a surprising phone call from the Massachusetts Lottery, telling him that his season ticket for Lucky for Life had matched the first five numbers drawn Oct. 20 – Stokes won $25,000 a year for a guaranteed minimum 20 years!

While the Lottery’s representative spoke with Stokes, they mentioned that by some coincidence there had been another lucky $25,000-per-year winner in Norwood for that drawing.

It wasn’t until after Stokes hung up the phone that he realized just how lucky he was – that second winner was him.

According to a Mass Lottery press release, Stokes immediately called back to inform the Lottery rep of his good luck, and claimed his prizes a few days later on Thursday, Oct. 23.

Stokes chose the cash option for both of his Lucky for Life second prizes, each worth $390,000 before taxes.  He told the Mass Lottery that he’d be taking the family on a vacation – a nice “thank you” for the season ticket that won half the prize – and the remaining money would help him pay his son’s college tuition and pay off his daughter’s car.
