Maryland Lottery’s Medal Madness

Jan. 22, 2014 – Maryland Lottery players may have noticed some of their favorite draw game tickets are printing out with a new feature on them; bronze, silver and gold “medals” will print out on some of the tickets from the Lottery’s terminal games until Feb. 23.

The medals are a part of the Lottery’s new Medal Madness promotion, which began Monday.  All of the Lottery’s terminal games – 10 in total including Pick 3, Pick 4, Powerball, Mega Millions and more – are eligible for the promotion, which will award $350,000 in prizes through a second-chance drawing.

There is another side to Medal Madness too.  The Lottery wants to reach 65,000 likes on their Facebook page,  and if they meet that goal they’ll add another $50,000 in prizes to the Medal Madness prize pool.

To enter, players need to collect a set of three medals – bronze, silver and gold – and mail them in to the Lottery’s P.O. box in Baltimore.  (You can find the exact address here, on the Medal Madness webpage.)

Each entry must be mailed in a separate envelope, but players can enter into the contest as many times as they’d like.  Only non-winning tickets purchased before Feb. 23 can be entered into the contest, and entries must arrive in the mail by March 3.

In the drawing, one winner will be selected to win a grand prize worth $250,000, another will receive a $50,00 prize.

There is one $25,000 third prize and twenty-five $1,000 prizes planned for the drawing, but there could be 50 prizes worth $1,000, and two more $25,000 prizes could be added as well.

That’s where Facebook ties into the game.  On the Medal Madness webpage, players will see three medals with the word “locked” on them.

When the Lottery reaches 60,000 “likes” on their Facebook page, the bronze “wildcard” will unlock.  Players will be able to print out a “wildcard” which can take the place of any one ticket in an entry.

So, if a player has tickets with bronze and gold medals, but is missing the silver medal, they’ll be able to print out a wildcard to take the place of the missing silver-medal ticket.  Once it is unlocked, players can use the wildcard as many times as they’d like, one per entry.

When 62,500 people “like” the Maryland Lottery’s Facebook page, the silver medal on the Medal Madness website will unlock, and the Lottery will add another 25 prizes worth $1,000 to the Medal Madness prize pool.

Once they’ve reached $65,000 “likes” on Facebook, the Medal Madness prize pool will grow by another $50,000, and two more lucky players will have a chance to score $25,000 third prizes.

And, on top of all these opportunities to win big in the Medal Madness second-chance drawing, players can win instantly.  Some terminal game tickets will be printing out with $2, $5, or $10 vouchers for free Lottery tickets during the promotion, and players can use them for any game.
