Man Finds Jackpot Ticket in Cookie Jar

May 16, 2013 – Ricardo Cerezo has almost five million reasons to eat more cookies after finding a four-month-old winning Lotto ticket in his cookie jar.

Cerezo claimed a $4.85 million jackpot Wednesday after finding the ticket from the Feb. 2 drawing for Illinois’ Lotto draw game.

“I can’t believe $4.85 million sat on my kitchen counter for months!” Cerezo said.

The cookie jar he kept the ticket in held his “rainy day” lottery ticket fund, and the jackpot-winning ticket was the only winner and the last of the tickets he checked for winnings at a nearby 7-Eleven.

His advice for other lottery players?  “Every time you buy a ticket, believe that it could be  a winner.  And check your old tickets!”

Cerezo, who lives in Geneva, Ill., plans to pay off his mortgage and share the winnings with his wife, son, and daughter.  The family will donate to their church and their favorite charities as well.

“It is very important to us that we use this money to help others,” Cerezo said.
