Dec 19, 14 LotteryHUB Weekly Review

Dec. 19, 2014 – This week marked the beginning of Hanukah and the one-week mark for Christmas, but nobody was celebrating – early or otherwise – with a big jackpot win.

Instead both the Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots kept rolling, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t plenty of celebrations around the country – millions of people won prizes this week.  For the full tally, read the Weekly Jackpot Update below.

In Game News this week, we clued you into an awesome new California Lottery contest, and gave you a little advice on avoiding scams during the holiday season.

Weekly Jackpot Update

Tonight’s Mega Millions jackpot has an estimated $125 million value and carries with it a cash value worth $80 million.

As it rolled to its current level over the past week, Mega Millions made more than 2.8 million winners who together collected more than $5.6 million in non-jackpot prizes.

Four players became millionaires playing Mega Millions this week.  Those winners bought their tickets in California, Nebraska, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Powerball players also had a good week: three players – two from California and one from Texas – won second prizes this week.

Along with the new millionaires there were more than 673,000 other Powerball players lucky enough to win a prize.  Altogether, this week’s Powerball winners collected more than $7.8 million in non-jackpot winnings.

Saturday’s Powerball drawing will feature an estimated $90 million with a $58.2 million cash value.

For a chance to win, you’ve gotta play.  Be sure to pick up your tickets before sales close; you can find sales cutoff times for Powerball here, and click here for Mega Millions sales cutoff times.

Weekly Game News

Lottery winners love doing extravagant things, so the California Lottery is giving players a chance to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and there’s only one top prize.

The Lottery is running a special contest for players of their Emerald 10s scratch-offs, and the winners will be put up in Napa Valley, where they’ll have dinner at The French Laundry, a world-renowned restaurant.

On the menu are apparently 18 courses from Chef Thomas Keller, along with a special surprise gift.  The French Laundry is one of just a handful of restaurants in the US with a three-star Michelin rating, and their menu changes daily, so your meal is unique.

You can learn more about the contest right here.

It’s the holiday season, and we’ve noticed a few reports of lottery scams going around. We decided it’d be a good time to give you some advice on the matter, so check out the video below for some tips on how to avoid being a lottery scam victim.
