LotteryHUB Weekly Review

Nov 21, 14 LotteryHUB Weekly Review

Nov. 21, 2014 – There’s just one week left before Thanksgiving, which means that a jackpot win this week could make for a record-breaking Thanksgiving feast next week.

We tallied up all the turkey and cranberry sauce you could afford – check out the biggest shopping list ever right here.

The week before Thanksgiving is always American Education Week, so we took a minute this week to remind LotteryHUB fans that every dollar spent on lottery games helps make education better.  Check out our video for National Education Week right here.

Speaking of support for education, Powerball and Mega Millions players contributed a lot this week, including one lucky jackpot winner who stopped by the Missouri Lottery office to claim a $202 million jackpot.

More on the big win just below.

Weekly Jackpot Update

Before we cover the mysterious jackpot winner who claimed their prize this week, let’s go over the numbers – it was a good week for Mega Millions and Powerball players all across the country.

More than 2 million Mega Millions players won prizes this week, though none of them were able to hit the jackpot.

This week’s winners were able to score a total of more than $5.2 million in non-jackpot prizes, and one player was lucky enough to match all five white numbers to win a second prize this week.

That lucky ticket was sold in Calif. and, according to the California Lottery’s website, is worth about $465,000.

California was a lucky place to be this week; two other California Lottery players won second prizes playing Powerball this week, one last Saturday and one on Wednesday.

The ticket sold for Saturday’s drawing is worth just less than $1 million, and Wednesday’s winner will receive about $220,000.

A third Powerball player from Washington also won a second prize this week and will receive Powerball’s normal $1 million second prize.

Along with those big winners there were almost 750,000 other players lucky enough to score a prize, and all those winners collected more than $7 million in non-jackpot winnings this week.

Nobody hit the jackpots, so Mega Millions sits at an estimated $43 million with a $26 million cash value, and the Powerball jackpot is estimated at $70 million, with a $43.5 million cash option.

The real news for Powerball this week came from Missouri, where a jackpot winner claimed her $202 million Powerball jackpot.

Marilyn Boldon won her giant jackpot just two weeks ago, on Sat., Nov. 8.  She claimed the prize quickly, but it may have taken her quite a while to get to the Missouri Lottery’s offices – Boldon said she lives in Dallas, Texas, some 650 miles south of St. Louis, where she bought the big winner.

That’s pretty much all that’s known about Marilyn Boldon, who declined to take a picture or provide information about what she was doing in St. Louis when she bought the lucky ticket.

One thing is for sure: after choosing the $127 million before-tax cash option for her prize, Boldon is probably feeling great about her bank account.

Weekly Game News

This week the holiday “creep” continued – the Illinois Lottery’s New Year’s Millionaire Raffle tickets went on sale today, the latest in a string of holiday-themed game releases.

The new Raffle replaced last year’s Halloween Raffle, and come Jan. 1, 2015, three Illinois Lottery players will be millionaires; hundreds more will be winners.

And this weekend, LotteryHUB Rewards has a triple-whammy lined up for our fans.  You could call it our own early holiday contests, but we’ve got our eyes set on less official holidays: we’re talking Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Tomorrow the entry periods for our Amazon.com and Fandango gift card giveaways will close, and 100 winners will be chosen in each.

Then on Sunday, the entry period for our Walmart gift card giveaway will close, and another 100 lucky LotteryHUB fans will win $10 gift cards.

If you’re not winning more on Rewards, check it out.  Download the free LotteryHUB mobile app and register with your email, then start earning points.
