LotteryHUB Weekly Review

April 18, 2014 – Tax season ended earlier this week, marking the end of an always-stressful time of year for so many of us, and also marking the day that tax accountants everywhere get to see sunshine again.

There were no Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot winners this week, the first week in a month that nobody won a jackpot prize on one of the nation’s two largest lottery games.

Weekly Jackpot Update

Tonight, players have a chance to win an estimated $38 million Mega Millions prize.  Should anyone match all six winning numbers drawn they’ll have a choice between the $38 million annuity or its cash value, which is estimated at $21 million.

Saturday’s Powerball drawing is beginning to attract attention from even the most casual of players.  With an estimated value of $128 million and a cash value estimated at $75 million, the jackpot is truly at life-changing levels.

So life-changing, in fact, that the next jackpot winner will have enough money to buy a private island anywhere in the world; Saturday’s Powerball jackpot is, quite literally, enough money to start your own country.

Tonight’s Mega Millions drawing will be held at 11 p.m. EDT, and the Powerball drawing will be held the same time tomorrow.  For a state-by-state list of how late you can buy Mega Millions tickets, click here.

Weekly Game News

Lottery players in New York and Arkansas may soon have more options when they decide to make a bet with their state lotteries.

In Arkansas this week, the state Lottery Commission voted to allow the Arkansas Lottery to investigate “monitor games,” like a video-bingo game owned by the lottery’s game vendor, Scientific Games.

Lottery Director Bishop Woosley told Arkansas News that he hoped the new monitor games could increase the Lottery’s contribution to education in the state by $4- or $5 million annually.

In a March 12 meeting of the New York Lottery Commission, the commission voted to take the first steps towards a new multi-state game called “Cash for Life.”

The new game would likely feature a top prize worth $1,000 a day for life, and a second prize that would pay $1,000 each week for life.

Finally, there was no LotteryHUB Rewards drawing this week, and there are still two weeks left until a winner will score a new Samsung Galaxy Tab3 in one of our exclusive rewards drawings.
