LotteryHUB Weekly Review

March 7, 2014 – Happy Friday and welcome to another LotteryHUB Weekly Review, where you can catch up on the top lottery stories from around the country.

This week could be the “calm before the storm” depending on the results of tonight’s Mega Millions drawing.  The jackpot is worth an estimated $270 million and could roll past $300 million if nobody wins tonight.

Weekly Jackpot Update

That’s right, we could be looking at another round of jackpot frenzy as the Mega Millions jackpot nears $300 million.  It’s been two weeks since the last big jackpot, a $425 million Powerball prize, was won in California, so players all across the country are probably ready for another chance to score hundreds of millions of dollars.

Tonight’s drawing for the $270 million Mega Millions jackpot will be held at 11 p.m., and the cash option for the jackpot prize is more than $150 million – plenty of money to fulfill all those jackpot dreams.

Powerball’s jackpot, while not nearly as large as Mega Millions’ top prize, is still a life-changing $50 million prize, with about a $30 million cash option.

The past two weeks have been lucky ones for Powerball players; the $425 million jackpot won in California was followed last week by another Powerball jackpot winner in the state.

That winner scored a $60 million jackpot just a few drawings after the bigger prize was won.  Neither winner has yet come forward to claim their prize.

Saturday’s Powerball drawing will be held at about 11 p.m., and players should remember that low jackpots usually present better chances of winning the jackpot alone, i.e., not having to split your winnings with another player in the country.

LotteryHUB users on iOS or Android should also remember to save their tickets into the LotteryHUB app.  After Saturday’s drawing, we’ll check your numbers for you and send you an email if it looks like you’re a winner.

Game News

This week saw the successful launch of All or Nothing in Georgia.  The unique draw game is already popular with players in Texas, Iowa and elsewhere, and the Georgia Lottery’s All or Nothing launch seems to have gone over well with players there.

In the first two days of All or Nothing play, Georgia Lottery players had scored nearly $150,000 playing the game, and seven players had won All or Nothing’s second prize for matching either 11 or just one of the 12 winning numbers.

We introduced players in Montana to a great new second chance promotion this week that should help bust the last of the wintertime blues.

The game is called $25,000 Gold, and through a special second-chance drawing that will be held in about two weeks, one player will be headed to Las Vegas for a VIP stay at the Golden Nugget hotel and casino.

Speaking of Vegas, 10 Florida Lottery players may already be packing for their trips after being named winners in the second drawing of Florida’s Forever Fabulous second-chance promotion.

Those winners and another 100 second prize winners entered non-winning Flamingo scratch-off tickets into the contest, and will now be headed to the Flamingo hotel in Vegas for a three-night VIP stay.

Finally in this week’s game news, there are less than three weeks until the Idaho Lottery starts giving away monthly prizes leading up to their 25th anniversary celebration.

The Lottery recently released a new, limited edition 25th anniversary scratch-off, and along with it they’ll be giving away $2,500 prizes each month for the next five months.

At the end of the promotion, just a few days after the Lottery’s 25th birthday, they will also award one lucky winner with a $25,000 grand prize.
