Feb. 14, 2014 – Happy Valentine’s Day! Hopefully all of your last minute shopping is done. Of course, if you’ve forgotten to pick up a Powerball ticket, you’re not quite done yet. The Powerball jackpot is huge right now.
This week, as the top athletes from around the world began competition in Sochi, Russia at the Winter Olympics, jackpot fever has everyday lottery players in fierce competition, too.
Plenty of new lottery games were released in the past week, and LotteryHUB gave away an iPad Air to one of our lucky fans. Thanks for catching up with us and welcome to this week’s Weekly Review
Weekly Jackpot Update
As mentioned above, a particularly large Powerball jackpot has been stirring interest in every corner of the country this week. Since last Wednesday’s drawing, the jackpot has grown nearly $100 million.
Saturday’s drawing will feature a $330 million jackpot prize, and if someone should be so lucky to win, they’ll have their choice of the $330 million annuity or a $189 million lump-sum prize, before taxes.
As more people take note of the giant prize, more winners are made in each drawing. Wednesday night, more than 990,000 players won one of the game’s nine prizes, collectively winning more than $13 million.
While the Powerball jackpot has taken the limelight in the past week or two, the Mega Millions jackpot has been steadily growing. Tonight’s Mega Millions drawing will feature an estimated annuity jackpot worth $139 million, with a cash value of about $76 million.
Tuesday night’s drawing didn’t make any jackpot winners or new millionaires, but still more than $3 million in non-jackpot prizes was won. 1.6 million Mega Millions players won a prize Tuesday night.
If you want to watch the Powerball drawing Saturday night, but already have plans around 11 p.m. EST, take the live drawing with you! The LotteryHUB mobile app – free for iOS, Android and Windows Phone – lets you live-stream each Powerball drawing.
You can even enter and save your numbers, and LotteryHUB Will check them for you after the drawing.
Just this morning, sales started for the Illinois Lottery’s St. Patrick’s Day Raffle, joining with a couple other states offering players a chance to really feel the “luck of the Irish.”
The Illinois Lottery’s St. Patrick’s Day Raffle features more than 500 prizes, including four top prizes worth $1 million. Players have the best odds of scoring one of those top prizes on the game; if all of the available tickets are sold, the odds of winning $1 million will be 1 in 125,000.
In Washington, D.C., lottery players can channel their patriotic Olympic spirit into a special contest called Money Medal Madness.
Players who buy Powerball tickets from the D.C. Lottery will notice gold, silver or bronze “medals” on some tickets. These “medals” can be entered into a special drawing with a $10,000 top prize.
Finally, Powerball’s Ultimate Tailgate Party Promotion has ended in all 18 participating states. Nebraska was the final state to draw contest winners, yesterday, and all 200 winners will be announced over the next week or two, depending on the state.
We’ll run a story here on LotteryHUB News once all the winners are announced, so check back often.
This Week at LotteryHUB
Check your email, LotteryHUB fans, one lucky winner scored an iPad Air in last night’s LotteryHUB Rewards drawing!
For players who register with LotteryHUB (we just need your email, or you can sign up through Facebook), LotteryHUB Rewards offers a totally free way to score some incredible prizes. In less than two weeks, LotteryHUB will be giving away a Macy’s Dream Shopping Spree to one of our lucky fans.
Over the past week, we’ve also released a few LotteryHUB exclusives to give our readers an inside look at some of the goings-on for lotteries around the country.
Last Friday, our feature on the Texas Lottery took a look into the bill that nearly dismantled the Texas Lottery Commission, and Wednesday afternoon we gave our readers a deeper look into the launch and early success of the Delaware Lottery’s iGaming platform.
Today, LotteryHUB News readers can take a step outside the familiar U.S. Lottery system. LotteryHUB spoke with Bill Thorburn, COO of Lotteries for Australian Tatts’ Group, the private operator of the majority of Australian lotteries.
Don’t forget that Powerball ticket for Saturday, and remember that the Mega Millions jackpot is enormous as well. Put together, there’s almost $470 million up for grabs in this week’s jackpot drawings; you definitely don’t want to miss your chance.
Good luck and happy Friday.
