LotteryHUB Weekly Review

Feb. 7, 2014 – Here’s your friendly reminder – Valentine’s Day is one week away.  A lottery win would certainly help get that 8-foot-tall teddy bear or endless box of chocolates, so for some of you, this week might be an especially good week to try your luck.

With more than $350 million up for grabs in this weekend’s Powerball and Mega Millions drawings, it’s a pretty good time for anyone to pick up a few tickets and try to beat the odds.

Weekly Jackpot Update

Powerball players are undoubtedly excited about Saturday’s jackpot, which sits at an estimated $247 million with a cash value of more than $142 million.

The Powerball jackpot rolled over Wednesday night from a $219 million jackpot, making more than 750,000 Powerball players winners and handing out more than $9 million in non-jackpot prizes.

Powerball players grabbing tickets for Saturday’s drawing should remember that time is almost up to enter $10 Powerball tickets into the Ultimate Tailgate second chance promotion.  200 winners will be flown out to Cleveland, Ohio in May for a once-in-a-lifetime event with 100 Pro Football Hall of Famers.  Read this post to learn which states are participating, and see if there’s still time left to enter.

Tonight, for the first time since a Tennessee mother and son won a $61 million jackpot in January, the Mega Millions jackpot is valued at more than $100 million.

Tonight’s Mega Millions jackpot prize sits at an estimated $107 million, carrying with it a cash value of about $59 million.

Players in Oklahoma looking to score a Mega Millions jackpot could win a whole year’s worth of chances through a special promotion there.  Check out this post to see how sending one text message could win you a year’s supply of Mega Millions tickets.

Weekly Game News

This week was a big one for new games, especially after the Minnesota Lottery launched the nation’s first real-money, online-only scratch-off game.

The new game is called Spicy 7s, and players who log into the Lottery’s subscription service can scratch off the virtual game board – which features spicy chilies and a bonus chili wheel – to see if they win one of the game’s instant prizes.  The top prize on the new game is worth $777.

Tuesday marked one full week of operation for the Iowa and Minnesota Lotteries new joint-venture game, All or Nothing.  In the unique draw game, players choose 12 numbers out of 24, and 12 winning numbers are drawn in the twice-daily drawings.

When players match all 12 winning numbers, they’ll win the game’s $100,000 top prize.  But, if a player doesn’t match any of the 12 winning numbers drawn, they’ll also win the $100,000 top prize.

In its first week, All or Nothing paid out about $90,000 in prizes in Iowa alone.  No data for the number of prize winners was available in Minnesota, though neither state lottery has announced a $100,000 All or Nothing winner yet.

Finally for game news this week, the Tennessee Lottery joined in on releasing unique games with it’s new Gold Bullion scratch-off ticket, which will pay winners in real gold should they win the $1 million top prize.

That’s right, just like Scrooge McDuck, you could have your own treasure room full of gold.  Of course, all that metal is heavy, so the Lottery leaves the choice to the top-prize winners: cash or gold.  There are ten of ten of the $1 million top prizes up for grabs.
