Dec. 6, 2013 – Welcome back to the LotteryHUB Weekly Review. Last week, the LotteryHUB team took Thanksgiving off because we all ate too much.
Hopefully you had a lucky holiday weekend, though it’s pretty clear that nobody got ultra lucky as our national jackpot games are still rolling.
Weekly Jackpot Update
Just a few hours ago, the Mega Millions estimated jackpot value grew from $291 million to $297 million ahead of tonight’s drawing, and the cash value for that huge prize is a whopping $158 million.
The Powerball jackpot has quickly grown to $100 million after a New Yorker won a $130 million jackpot just three weeks ago
Because that kind of money is staggering just to think about, the first thing any winner needs to do is hire a team to help them figure out how to handle it all.
But financial advice can be so boring, so today we published “6 Ways to Invest Your Jackpot Win“, (which could also likely be called “Things Your Financial Advisor Won’t Like”)
Happenings Around the Country
For Mega Millions and Powerball players in North Carolina, playing the lottery just got a whole lot easier.
The North Carolina Lottery launched its online subscription program Thursday, which will allow players to buy Powerball, Mega Millions, and North Carolina’s own Carolina Cash 5 games over the internet, provided they buy two weeks worth of tickets at a time.
Being the first week of December, it’s a perfect time to remind players in Pennsylvania, Arkansas, and Virginia that the holiday-season raffles are coming to a close.
Arkansas’ Million Dollar Raffle, which has been on sale since Sept. 1, has already awarded 33 winners with cash prizes through three Early Bird Drawings. The Grand Prize drawing there will be held Dec. 31, New Year’s Eve, and will be awarding more than $1 million in total prizes.
Virginia’s New Year’s Millionaire Raffle will be drawn less than 24 hours later on New Year’s Day, and will be helping more than 300 winners kick off the New Year the right way – with a little extra cash in their pockets.
More than 50,000 of the New Year’s Raffle tickets have already been sold, but there are still more than 250,000 tickets available. Three lucky winners will become new millionaires New Year’s Day, so don’t miss out on your chance to be one of them.
Pennsylvania’s Millionaire Raffle will make four new millionaires just a few days after Virginia’s winners are announced. The Jan. 4 drawing in Pennsylvania will award more than 6,000 winners with cash prizes totaling more than $5 million.
The Holiday Season is Upon Us
Indeed, Thanksgivikkuh rang in the holiday season last week, setting impossible standards for the rest of the holidays, which cannot boast a 70,000 year special event. Black Friday was, as always, an unruly day-and-a-half for the entire nation, and as soon as the calendar said “Thanksgiving Day,” radio stations began the seemingly endless loop of Christmas music.
For all the simultaneous joy and anxiety that this time of year brings into so many homes, it’s important to remember that lotteries across the country want to help you celebrate, or possibly get so rich you can skip the celebration, or move it to Hawaii.
However, while the odds on holiday games might be great, LotteryHUB wants to join in with several state lotteries reminding players to be responsible with their games – they’re not for kids.
Some states have different laws than others, but everyone agrees that encouraging children to gamble is not part of the game or the holiday season.
LotteryHUB did make one lucky fan the hit of the holiday season this week though. One of our LotteryHUB Rewards members won our Xbox Cache Stash in Tuesday’s LotteryHUB Rewards drawing!
The Xbox stash included the new Xbox One gaming console, five of the hottest game titles, a wireless headset and a controller. Overall, that lucky winner saved themselves $1,000 on Xbox goodies. The real question – whether they’ll keep it for themselves or give the gift of Xbox awesome this holiday season.
The LotteryHUB app keeps you connected to all of your favorite games and the latest news from your state lottery, and lets you watch every Powerball drawing live on your smartphone.
Don’t forget to pick up your Mega Millions and Powerball tickets heading into the weekend. Good luck and remember, you can’t win if you don’t play.
