LotteryHUB Weekly Review

Nov. 22, 2013 – There’s less than one full week until Thanksgiving, and a week from today many of us will be shopping for the best deals of the year, or will have already done the “dropping” in “shop ’til you drop”.

Of course, here at LotteryHUB, we’re having a hard time containing our excitement for the week to come.  Not because we’re daydreaming of turkeys and sale stickers, but because there are still four chances to get so rich you could share Thanksgiving with your whole neighborhood, and then pay for everyone’s shopping list – without getting to the mall by 4 a.m.

The Perfect Time for Powerball

Last Saturday, one lucky Powerball ticket made a New York player $130.3 million richer, and reset the jackpot to $40 million for the rest of us.

Wednesday night, Powerball players won more than $8.3 million in non-jackpot prizes, including four players who matched all five white balls drawn.  Two of those players won $1 million second prizes, while a third in Florida scored $2 million with PowerPlay.

The fourth winner, in California, struck it rich on the first drawing in a new run, winning more than $3.2 million through California’s pari-mutuel system.

The power of the “small” jackpot could work for you too.  With less people interested, smaller jackpots are more often won by single tickets, rather than being split.  Saturday night’s drawing features a $50 million jackpot with a cash value of $28.2 million.

Mega Millions Near $200 Million

While the Powerball Jackpot may have fallen since last Friday, the Mega Millions jackpot continued rolling this week, surviving both drawings and growing to $181 million ahead of tonight’s 11 p.m. ET draw.

Since Mega Millions underwent changes in mid-October, each drawing has as promised produced many, many more winners.  This week was no exception as more than 3.5 million winners raked in more than $10.7 million in prize money.

Still, nobody was able to capture the most elusive prize, and should it roll over again tonight, there’s a chance it could suprass $200 million, bumping the cash value into the 9-digit range along the way.

Keeping New Jersey On Top of its Game

For lottery players in New Jersey, getting in on the lottery action is about to become a whole lot easier.

The well-known and well-loved chain of convenience stores, Wawa, announced today that all 210 of its New Jersey locations would be getting self-service lottery vending machines by Memorial Day 2014.

Wawa, based in the Delaware Valley in Pennsylvania, has long been recognized as a dominant chain of convenience stores in the tri-state area, especially southern New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

The New Jersey Lottery and Wawa expressed their excitement over their partnership today at the grand opening of a new Wawa location in Jackson, N.J., and New Jersey Lottery Executive Director Carole Hedinger said that the partnership was sure to help raise more money for education in the state.

According to a Wawa press release, more than $37 million in contributions to state beneficiaries was generated through self-service lottery machines in about 280 locations through Pennsylvania and Virginia in the past year.
