Jackpot Winning Ticket Sold in Philadelphia
June 24, 2013 – One winning ticket for Saturday night’s drawing was sold at Federal Beer, a South Philadelphia beer distributor, making its owner $131.5 million richer over the weekend.
Ghanshyam ‘Gary’ Patel, who has owned Federal Beer for the about eight years, told 6 ABC News that he hoped the winner was one of his regulars.
Residents of the neighborhood also hope it was someone they know who would give back to the neighborhood, or at least give some money to friends.
“I hope I know them,” joked area resident Victoria Bivins. “I’m about to find a new cousin!”
Pennsylvania Lottery and Powerball officials cannot confirm the winner of any jackpot until they come forward to claim their prize. Pennsylvania winners have one year before the claiming period expires and their prize is forfeited.
Store-owner Patel has some celebrating to do as well. For selling the jackpot-winning ticket, he’ll receive a $100,000 bonus from the Pennsylvania Lottery.
He told the local ABC reporter that he’ll be treating his three employees and adding to his newborn twins’ college funds.
The winning numbers Saturday night were 13, 19, 23, 33, and 57, and the Powerball was 28.
While the jackpot winning ticket went to a Philadelphia winner, this New Jersey based writer just across the bridge is celebrating his first time winning any prize with Powerball – $4! At least it’s enough to cover my tickets for Wednesday!
