Iowa winner gives his winning to his wife.
One man from Iowa recently won $2 million from the Iowa Lottery, and is spending his winnings to take care of his wife.
Don Johnson of Decorah, Iowa won $2 million from the Saturday June 22 Powerball drawing through the Iowa Lottery. The jackpot for that drawing was $131 million. Johnson had purchased his ticket before the drawing to try for the large jackpot. He was the only winner to receive the $2 million Match 5 with Power Play prize from that particular drawing.
Johnson says he plans to spend his winnings on his wife. Johnson and his wife have been married for over 50 years, and she has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. Alzheimer’s is a neurological condition that eats away at a person’s mind, primarily affecting their memory. Johnson’s wife, Shirley, is in a nursing home, and Johnson hopes his winnings will help to pay for her care.
Johnson had owned a bar in his hometown of Decorah, before retiring a few years ago. After paying for his wife’s medical expenses, he has no plans for what to do with the remainder of his money.
Johnson is one Iowa winner who is definitely putting other before himself, and is proud to use his winnings to help those he cares about most.
