Feb. 11, 2014 – Tuesday morning, James Caldwell of Orlando, Fla. claimed the $46 million jackpot prize from the Dec. 18 Florida Lotto drawing.
Caldwell bought a quick-pick ticket that won the big prize by matching the six winning numbers: 2, 5, 9, 24, 34 and 40.
Tuesday morning, Caldwell claimed the prize on behalf of the trust BJEWEL, LLC, so it is possible that the winnings will be split between a group of players.
Caldwell chose to accept the jackpot prize as a one-time, lump sum payment of $28,759,280 before taxes.
The $46 million jackpot was the second-largest in 2013, and also the second-largest prize won since December 2011. In August 2013, a $59 million jackpot was won in Kissimmee.
Caldwell did not give any statement to the Lottery Tuesday morning. The Florida Lottery did report that he purchased the winning quick pick ticket at a Circle K convenience store, located at 2704 South Ferncreek Ave. in Orlando.
A month after Caldwell’s winning ticket hit the jackpot, another jackpot worth $12 million was won. The jackpot prize for Florida Lotto has continued to grow since, and sits at $8 million for Wednesday’s drawing.
