Summertime is the time to enjoy America’s past-time, baseball. This season, many state lotteries are teaming up with their favorite teams to help you celebrate the sport just in time for the MLB All-Star Game!
Games similar to baseball have been played as early as the 1300s. The game then still featured a ball and a bat of sorts, and was called “la balle au baton” and was played in France. The earliest reference to modern-day baseball can be found in “A Little Pretty Pocket-Book,” which describes the game of baseball and even includes images that look similar to what we refer to as baseball today. Baseball became popular in America in the 1850s, when the game hit New York and people began crowding to watch people play. From there, a summertime tradition was born that has lasted more than 100 years, and is still going strong.
Whether you enjoy playing the game, watching from home, or going out to the ballpark, there are many ways to enjoy baseball this summer. Many state lotteries feature baseball themed scratch-offs, including the Rhode Island Lottery. Other than just themed scratch-offs, many lotteries have Second Chance Promotions, including Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and so many more! Second Chance promotions allow lottery players to keep winning from their scratch-offs. Most lotteries allow players to enter non-winning scratch-off games into Second Chance Drawings with fun themed prizes.
These games come just in time for the 2013 MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday July 16 at 7:30pm EST on Fox, hosted by the New York Mets at Citi Field. The All-Star game chooses the best from the American League to go up against the best from the National League. The Midsummer Classic is the second biggest event in the MLB season, with the World Series being the top dog of the summer.
If you can’t make it to a MLB game, many lotteries also show their support for the Minor Leagues. The Ohio Lottery gives baseball fans the chance to play their Baseball Bingo game when they support their favorite MiLB team. Many other teams get it on the baseball action including Wisconsin, Texas, Maryland, Vermont and Indiana.
