Couple Claims Christmas Day Powerball Jackpot
Jan. 3- 2014 A Kansas City couple must have been on Santa’s “nice” list this year, they received a $71.5 million Powerball jackpot for Christmas.
Kevin Carlson stops at the same Autobahn BP in Missouri to grab his morning coffee, donut, and Powerball ticket. This Thursday when Kevin went into his usual store, the cashier told him they sold a winning ticket. Kevin made his way over to the ticket scanner, scanned his Powerball ticket, and could hardly believe it.
“The first time I scanned it, I didn’t believe it, so I scanned it again,” he said. “I kind of went nuts.” Can you blame him? Carlson held the single winning ticket in the $71.5 million Powerball draw.
Carlson and his wife claimed the winning ticket at the Missouri Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City the day after Christmas. Then on December 27th Kevin celebrated his birthday.
Kevin already quit his job, but his wife will continue to work. “Now that I don’t work, I plan to use my time to figure out what to do with the money.”
The couple already plans to help support their two children, pay some bills, go on a 30th wedding anniversary trip, and purchase Kevin’s dream car- a 1968 Camaro.
The Platte Woods’ Autobahn BP will receive a $50,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket. This is the 28th Missouri Powerball jackpot winner since the Lottery started in 1986.
Powerball fans can watch every drawing live right from their smartphones, plus store and save their Powerball numbers using LotteryHUB’s free mobile app for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone. Remember you can’t be as lucky as the Carlsons if you don’t play!
