Colorado Powerball Jackpot Winner Claims $90 Million

Aug 14, 14 Colorado Powerball Jackpot Winner Claims $90 Million

Aug. 14, 2014 – Fifty-three-year-old Claude G. is the lucky winner who struck it rich in last Saturday’s Powerball drawing, winning an estimated $90 million jackpot.

Claude “Al” G., who declined to give his last name during a press conference after he claimed his prize, matched the numbers 3, 12, 31, 34, 51 and the Powerball, 24, to win the jackpot.

He told reporters and lottery officials at the Colorado Lottery’s headquarters Wednesday that the Sunday morning after the draw, he woke up to the sound of his wife, Jackie, screaming “oh my God, oh my God, oh my God!”

According to the Denver Post, Jackie and one of the couple’s two daughters purchased the lucky Powerball ticket, a Quick Pick.  This was the first time they’d won more than a few dollars.

The big win wasn’t just a family record, either.  Their $90 million jackpot is the largest Powerball jackpot ever won in Colorado.

When asked what they would do with their newfound wealth, Claude said all they had planned so far was to take a second honeymoon; the couple celebrated their 33rd anniversary Friday, just one day before the life-changing drawing.

Other than that, they’re not sure what they’ll do other than “have fun.”  Claude said at Wednesday’s press conference that he’s “been waking up since Sunday feeling like this isn’t really real.”

The couple hasn’t decided yet whether they’ll take the full $90 million annuity or the estimated $54 million cash value of the prize.  Claude said he hired lawyers to help him manage the family’s windfall.

Despite millions in the bank, though, Claude said at the press conference that he might feel the need to keep his job as a tow truck driver, “to keep from going completely crazy.”
