Powerball Jackpot Split Three Ways: Winners in Texas, N.C., P.R.

Feb. 12, 2015 — Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing finally found a winner for the prize that captivated players over the past few weeks. After topping out at an estimated $564.1 million – and becoming the third-largest Powerball jackpot ever – the prize finally fell to winners in Texas, North Carolina and Puerto Rico. The three jackpot-winning tickets each matched all of Wednesday’s winning numbers: 11, 13, 25, 39, 54 and the Powerball, 19.  The Power Play multiplier drawn was 3x, so players who won third or lower prizes with Power Play will receive three times the normal amount. Each of the big winners will have their choice between the annuity or cash options for their share of the jackpot prize.  Split three ways, each annuity prize is worth about $188 million and each cash prize is worth about $127 million, before taxes. On top of the incredible windfall, Puerto Rico’s jackpot winner has another reason to celebrate: theirs is the first Powerball jackpot win there since the game became available in October. The jackpot winners certainly weren’t the only people feeling lucky Wednesday night, though.  In all there were more than 5.97 million winners made, and the drawing paid out an incredible $74,166,178. Thirty-four of the nearly 6 million winners became millionaires Wednesday night, including one lucky player from Pennsylvania who won $2 million with Power Play. The other 33 new millionaires were spread out across 17 states: New York had four second-prize winners; Texas, Ohio, Missouri and California each had three second-prize winners. There were two new millionaires made in Washington, North Carolina, Maryland, Florida and Arizona; and Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Louisiana, Kansas and Illinois each had one second-prize winner. Along with all those second prize winners, another 318 Powerball players missed the jackpot by just a single number, matching four white numbers and the Powerball to win third prizes. Of those winners, 35 added Power Play to their tickets, which will multiply their prizes to $30,000.  The other 283 winners will each receive...

Texas Mega Millions Prize Expires Soon

Dec. 9, 2014 – A Mega Millions player in Texas won’t be able to call themselves lucky for much longer – a second-prize winning ticket sold in June is set to expire next week if no winner comes forward to claim the prize. The $1 million ticket was purchased ahead of the June 17, 2014 Mega Millions drawing, and the Texas Lottery gives winners 180 days from the date of the drawing to claim their prize. That means the winner has until  Sunday, Dec. 14 to come forward with the winning ticket, otherwise the $1 million prize will vanish. The Texas Lottery isn’t open on the weekends, however, so the winner has two options: claim the prize before 5 p.m. Friday, when the Lottery’s claims centers close, or they can fill out a claims form and mail in the lucky ticket.  As long as the claim is postmarked Dec. 14 or earlier, the winner can claim their million bucks. The winning numbers for the June 17 drawing were 10, 14, 24, 47, 60 and the Mega Ball was 3.  The Texas winner was the only player to win a second prize that day, and they bought their ticket at the Sellers Brothers Drive-In Grocery, located at 220 Preston St. in Pasadena. The drawing featured a $15 million starting jackpot as it was the first drawing after Kelsey Zachow, a single mom from Michigan, won a $66 million jackpot. Be sure to check your tickets – hopefully you’re a big winner and don’t know it yet!  If you do have winnings to claim, you can find the Texas Lottery’s claims form here, and a list of their claims centers...

Time Running Out on $12 Million Lotto Texas Jackpot

June 30, 2014 – There are only a couple hours left before $12 million turns into 12 million pumpkins and a would-be multi-millionaire misses their ticket to the good life. The Lotto Texas ticket matched all six numbers drawn in the game’s Jan. 1 drawing to win the $12 million prize.  Those winning numbers were 15, 17, 43, 45, 47, 50. The winning ticket was sold at the South Shore Shell, located at 3390 FM 518, League City, Texas, according to a Texas Lottery press release. Though the $12 million winner has yet to come forward, South Shore Shell has already received their part of the big win.  On March 6, the store was presented with a check for $121,385 as a bonus for selling the winning ticket. The Texas Lottery gives winners a 180-day window beginning the day of the drawing to claim their prizes.  After 5 p.m. on the final day of the claims period, the prize money goes into state coffers to help fund the programs that Texas’ lottery supports. If the winner does make it to the Texas Lottery claims office before 5 p.m., they’ll have a choice to make: take the full $12 million prize as an annuity, or “take the money and run” with the cash option, which is worth about $7.56 million.   Related articles $36.25 million lottery ticket remains unclaimed It’s last call for $12 million Lotto Texas jackpot $50-million Lotto Max prize for Dec. 20 remains...

Texas Ticket Wins Mega Millions Jackpot

June 29, 2014 – One lucky ticket sold in Texas matched all six numbers in Friday night’s Mega Millions drawing to win the jackpot.  Their prize has an estimated value of $33 million, and the cash option is worth about $19 million. The winning numbers in Friday’s Mega Millions drawing were 15, 29, 31, 46, 64 and the Mega Ball was 10.  The Megaplier drawn was 3x, so players who added the optional multiplier to their tickets and won a prize will receive three times the normal prize amount. Friday’s jackpot winner was the only new millionaire made in the drawing; no tickets matched only the first five white numbers, a five-out-of-six winning combination worth $1 million. There were 16 winners whose tickets matched four of the white numbers and the Mega Ball to win third prizes Friday.  Two of those winners added the Megaplier option to their tickets and will receive $15,000 prizes, while the other 14 won Mega Millions’ normal $5,000 third prize. Along with these top winners there were more than a million others who won a prize Friday night.  Non-jackpot winners together won more than $2.2 million  in prizes. There’s always a lot to be won playing Mega Millions – even if the jackpot is at its $15 million starting point, like it will be Tuesday night.  Along with the $15 million annuity and $8 million cash value, about a million players win in each Mega Millions drawing. Be sure to pick up your tickets before sales close ahead of Tuesday’s drawing; don’t miss your chance to join be a winner.  For a state-by-state list of Mega Millions sales cutoff times, read this post.
