Powerball Jackpot Split Three Ways: Winners in Texas, N.C., P.R.

Feb. 12, 2015 — Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing finally found a winner for the prize that captivated players over the past few weeks. After topping out at an estimated $564.1 million – and becoming the third-largest Powerball jackpot ever – the prize finally fell to winners in Texas, North Carolina and Puerto Rico. The three jackpot-winning tickets each matched all of Wednesday’s winning numbers: 11, 13, 25, 39, 54 and the Powerball, 19.  The Power Play multiplier drawn was 3x, so players who won third or lower prizes with Power Play will receive three times the normal amount. Each of the big winners will have their choice between the annuity or cash options for their share of the jackpot prize.  Split three ways, each annuity prize is worth about $188 million and each cash prize is worth about $127 million, before taxes. On top of the incredible windfall, Puerto Rico’s jackpot winner has another reason to celebrate: theirs is the first Powerball jackpot win there since the game became available in October. The jackpot winners certainly weren’t the only people feeling lucky Wednesday night, though.  In all there were more than 5.97 million winners made, and the drawing paid out an incredible $74,166,178. Thirty-four of the nearly 6 million winners became millionaires Wednesday night, including one lucky player from Pennsylvania who won $2 million with Power Play. The other 33 new millionaires were spread out across 17 states: New York had four second-prize winners; Texas, Ohio, Missouri and California each had three second-prize winners. There were two new millionaires made in Washington, North Carolina, Maryland, Florida and Arizona; and Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Louisiana, Kansas and Illinois each had one second-prize winner. Along with all those second prize winners, another 318 Powerball players missed the jackpot by just a single number, matching four white numbers and the Powerball to win third prizes. Of those winners, 35 added Power Play to their tickets, which will multiply their prizes to $30,000.  The other 283 winners will each receive...

Free Pizza? N.C. Lottery Game Has Pizza Prizes

Oct. 6, 2014 – Free pizza is the calling card of a good deal, and the North Carolina Lottery is giving players a shot at winning the good stuff – during National Pizza Month, no less – through a new scratch-off game. Their new Papa John’s scratch-off game costs $2, and players can win as much as $20,000 instantly.  Altogether there’s nearly $4 million worth of cash prizes to be won on the scratch-off. At the bottom of the ticket, players will also have a chance to win free pizza, breadsticks and more from Papa John’s, or score a discount on their favorite Papa John’s food. According to an N.C. Lottery press release, Papa John’s has put up $3 million in free promotional items and discounts for the special game. And, as if the instant-pizza opportunities on the new scratch-off’s weren’t enough, players can enter non-winning Papa John’s tickets into a special second chance promotion for a chance to win free pizza all year. Through a second-chance contest, five lucky winners will score free Papa John’s pizza all year long, and another 15 winners will win pizza parties. Free pizza on a scratch-off is such a good idea, it’s hard to believe it hasn’t been done before.  So how did it come to be? Papa John’s Vice President of Operations Mike Smith explained that as co-sponsors of so many North Carolina events, it seemed like a great idea for Papa John’s and the North Carolina Lottery to partner up. “We thought ‘Why not work together on a game?’  This could be fun for everyone,” Smith said....

All or Nothing Off to A Good Start in N.C.

Sept. 11, 2014 – On average, winners of the North Carolina Lottery’s newest draw game, All or Nothing, are doubling their money, making it a pretty lucky first week for the new game. The Lottery launched All or Nothing, a unique draw game that is popular in several other states, Sunday.  Since then, more than a quarter million dollars in prizes has been paid out to about 70,000 winners. Of all those winners, none have won the game’s top prize quite yet, however there have been 27 players lucky enough to win All or Nothing’s $500 second prize. For North Carolina players who haven’t tried out the new game yet, here’s how it works. It’s called “All or Nothing” for a reason: you can win the game’s top prize by matching all of the numbers drawn, or none of them. The game’s unique play style is what has made it popular in so many other states.  Players pick 12 numbers out of 24.  Then, in each drawing 12 winning numbers are selected. Players who match all 12 numbers in any order will win the $250,000 top prize.  Matching fewer numbers – either 11, 10, 9, or 8 numbers – will net players smaller prizes. But that’s just half the game.  While there are no prizes for matching six or five of the winning numbers, matching just four, three, two or one number will win players smaller prizes, and, as mentioned above, missing all 12 numbers wins $250,000. Overall there are 10 ways to win on the game, either by matching or missing more than half of the winning numbers. The North Carolina Lottery is giving players two chances every day to win All or Nothing prizes; drawings are held daily at about 12:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. You can learn more about All or Nothing on the North Carolina Lottery’s website,...

North Carolina Lottery Launching All or Nothing

Aug. 12, 2014 – The North Carolina Lottery will in September begin to offer “All or Nothing,” a unique draw game that has become popular in other states where a version of the game is played. The Lottery announced on Monday that All or Nothing will officially launch Sunday, Sept. 7. Both ticket sales and drawings will begin that day, so players who want to try their luck on the very first drawing better not sleep in – the first drawing will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tickets for the new draw game will cost $2, and the Lottery will hold two drawings each day, one at 12:30 p.m., the other at 7:30 p.m. The game’s name, All or Nothing, offers a clue to how it’s played.  Players must choose 12 numbers between 1 and 24, then 12 winning numbers are drawn in each drawing.  Players who match all 12 numbers or players who don’t match any numbers win the game’s $250,000 top prize. All or Nothing has four other prize levels and a total of ten ways to win.  Matching just one or 11 numbers wins a second prize, worth $500;  matching two or 10 numbers is worth a $50 third prize; players who match three or nine numbers will win $10 fourth prizes; and matching four or eight numbers will win players a break-even, $2 prize. “If you’re someone who feels like they never get any of the numbers when they play the lottery, this is the game for you,” said Alice Garland, executive director of the North Carolina Education Lottery. All or Nothing is the first new game the Lottery has introduced in four years, since they began selling Mega Millions tickets in 2010. “The new game will help the lottery reach a goal of raising $520 million for education programs this year,” Garland said.  “All successful businesses offer new products from time to time.  We hope the ‘either way wins’ theme of this game will appeal to both regular and new...

Last Day to Enter Two N.C. Lottery Second Chance Drawings

July 31, 2014 – Today is the entry deadline for two of the North Carolina Education Lottery’s special second chance drawings, the Hot Summer and Caesars Second Chance promotions. Players with non-winning tickets from the Lottery’s “Hot 5” game series, which includes the games Hot 5s, Red Hot 5s and White Hot 5s, can enter them today for a chance to win up to $5,000 in this month’s second chance drawing. Ten winners will be chosen to receive $5,000 in the Hot 5 Second Chance drawing, which will be held Aug. 6, but that’s not the only chance players have to win big with this promotion. Once all three monthly drawings have chosen $5,000 winners, a grand prize drawing will choose a single winner from all Hot 5 Second Chance contest entries, and that lucky grand prize winner will take home $150,000. Also closing today is the entry period for the July drawing of the North Carolina Education Lottery’s Caesars promotion.  The Caesars scratch-off game became immensely popular after its release in April, and as a result, the Lottery has added 10 more top prizes to its contest prize pool. That’s great news for second chance players looking for a ticket to Las Vegas, because that’s exactly what the top prize for the contest is.  In this month’s Caesars Second Chance drawing, four winners will be chosen to take a trip to Las Vegas and see the real Caesars for themselves. The North Carolina Education Lottery will pay round-trip airfare for the winners and one guest each, put them up for a four-night, five-day stay in the luxurious Laurel Collection at Caesars Palace, and even throw in a $1,250 Visa gift card, which should help with the Vegas nightlife. Vegas hopefuls will have to enter the codes from non-winning $5 Caesars scratch-off tickets on the Lottery’s Lucke-Zone website to be entered into the contest. If you don’t have any non-winning tickets, pick one up!  There are still 13 of the original 20 Vegas trips...
