Powerball Ultimate Tailgate – One Month Left

Jan. 9, 2014 – Powerball players in 18 states have just one more month to enter into their state’s Powerball Ultimate Tailgate promotion.  200 contest winners from participating states will live out every football fan’s dream – a five-day trip to the Football Hall of Fame, and a chance to hang out with 100 Pro Football Hall of Famers. The Ultimate Tailgate promotion opened in November, and with about one month left to enter into each state’s individual contest drawings, now is the time for serious football fans to enter for their chance to win. Winners from each state will be provided with transportation to Cleveland, Ohio, to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Pro Football Hall of Fame during the Hall of Fame Fan Festival, which will run May 3-4 at the I-X Center there. The night before the Fan Festival begins, Ultimate Tailgate Party winners and their guests will eat dinner with one of the 100 Hall of Famers, and then team up with another to compete in a tournament of tailgating games. Players must purchase $10 or more on a single Powerball ticket for their ticket to be eligible.  That’s at least five plays, and with the jackpot sitting at $80 million right now, that’s five chances to win some serious cash. Each state has a different number of passes to the Ultimate Tailgate Party available.  The 18 states participating in this one-of-a-kind promotion are: New Hampshire Vermont New York Rhode Island New Jersey Pennsylvania Ohio West Virginia North Carolina Indiana – Hoosier Lottery Kentucky Tennessee Florida Iowa South Dakota Nebraska Kansas New...

Nebraska Couple Claims Jackpot Prize

Dec. 18, 2013 – Amidst all the excitement over Tuesday’s $648 million Mega Millions jackpot, a Nebraska couple officially became multi-millionaires thanks to their recent Powerball jackpot win. David and Eric Herrig claimed their half of a $122.9 million Powerball jackpot yesterday.  Their ticket and another sold in Sterling, Mass. matched all six numbers drawn Dec. 11, making both tickets worth more than $61 million as annuity prizes. Tuesday, Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman presented the Herrigs with their oversized check for $61.45 million. “Christmas came early for the Herrig family,” Heineman said.  “I am very happy for David and Erica, and I wish them all the best this holiday season.” Both David and Erica said in a press conference that they quit their jobs after learning they’d won the Powerball jackpot, though it was not an easy decision.  “I love my job,” Erica said, “but let me just enjoy the roller coaster.” The couple made it clear during their press conference that they didn’t plan on letting their windfall change who they are. David told reporters that he assured his friends “If you were friends with us on Tuesday, you’re friends with us today.”  The couple says they’ve even asked friends and family to help keep them grounded in the future. Helping with that endeavor is the “team” that the Herrigs have already assembled to help them handle their newfound wealth.  They said that they’ve formed a plan to build “a legacy for generations to come, and that same team is going to protect us from ourselves.” But, with Nebraska’s second-largest ever lottery prize in the bank for the holiday season, splurging on a gift for themselves is to be expected.  The couple said they’d look into buying a new home, and David told reporters that a brand new Chevrolet Corvette would be arriving in their driveway soon.  ...

Ultimate Tailgate Party Powerball Promotion

Nov. 8, 2013 – How’d you like to meet a professional football legend?  How about 100 of them?  That’s just the opportunity Powerball players can have if they enter into the Ultimate Tailgate Party promotion in any of 18 participating states. Two hundred contest winners will get a football fan’s dream vacation – a 5-day-long trip to Cleveland, Ohio to celebrate the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s 50th anniversary with 100 Hall of Famers at the 2014 Fan Festival. The Fan Festival, which will run May 3 and 4 at the I-X Center in Cleveland, is the first-ever celebration of the fans behind Pro Football and the Hall of Fame, and pro football greats are excited to recognize the fans who supported them as players. Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw said in an I-X Center press release “I realize more than ever how much I owe to the fans… this Fan Fest is a great chance to say thanks to the Hall of Fame fans of the game.” The Fan Festival will feature Hall of Famers discussing next season’s draft, giving commentary through a sports movie film festival, signing autographs and even holding a football clinic on a 100-yard field in the I-X Center. While the Fan Festival will be open to anyone who buys a ticket (ticket sales begin in December), Powerball contest winners will be treated to the Ultimate Tailgate Party the evening before the Fan Festival kicks off.  What’s any pro football event without a great tailgate, right? The 200 winners of the Powerball contest and their lucky guests will get to sit down to dinner with one of the 100 Hall of Famers present.  After dinner, winners will team up with a different Hall of Famer to compete in a tournament of several different games. Each winner will receive round-trip airfare for themselves and three guests.  Once in Cleveland, participating lotteries will also provide them with two hotel rooms, meals and transportation. Along with admission to the Ultimate Tailgate Party...

Nebraska Offering Mega Millions Discount

Oct. 17, 2013 – With big changes for the mutli-state Mega Millions game just days away, the Nebraska Lottery has announced it will offer special discounted tickets while players get accustomed to the new Mega Millions. From the day before the first drawing with Mega Millions’ new format, Oct. 21, until Nov. 3, players can get two Mega Millions tickets with Megaplier for $3. The $1 discount can be applied to quick picks or play slips that players fill out themselves.  To get the discount, players must simply purchase two Mega Millions tickets with Megaplier – an option that normally costs an extra $1 per ticket. The discount can be applied in two ways; players can choose to play two drawings with one set of numbers with the Megaplier option, or they can purchase two sets of numbers, both with Megaplier, for one drawing. Either way, the odds of winning any prize on Mega Millions are getting much better. Starting with the drawing Tuesday, Oct. 22, the overall odds of winning on a Mega Millions ticket will be just 1 in 15. Jackpots will start at $15 million and increase by at least $5 million with each rollover in the new game.  Other changes to Mega Millions will make for faster-growing jackpots and more winners on each drawing. Megaplier, the option that Nebraska players must choose if they want to receive discounted tickets, is getting bigger too.  There will now be a 5x ball, and if drawn, Megaplier prizes will multiply five times their normal value. You can read more about the upcoming changes to Mega Millions here, and players can visit the Nebraska Lottery’s website for more information about the discounted ticket...

Nebraska Lottery Honoring Stores with Top Sales

Sept. 11, 2013 – The Nebraska Lottery has been selling tickets for 20 years, to the day, and Lottery representatives took to the road today to congratulate and thank the top 20 retailers in the state. In 20 years, each of these top 20 stores has managed to sell more than $100 million worth of the Lottery’s tickets.  Neil Watson, a representative for the Nebraska Lottery, told the Lincoln Journal Star’s Peter Salter that “a combination of factors” has helped these top 20 stores sell so many tickets over the years. “Some stores have a very loyal player base.  Some stores, it’s location, and the amount of traffic they have,” Watson said.  Whatever the reason behind their success, it’s clear from the list that family-owned shops do just as well as large chain stores. Number 20 on the list is one of the small shops with the kind of “loyal player base” that Watson credited.  Holdrege’s Pump & Pantry, in Holdrege, Neb., received an award 5 years ago for its success as a lottery retailer, and will be adding another to the collection. Assistant Manager Linda Clark told Salter that the store’s employees and loyal customers deserved credit, and that sales of instant games and draw game tickets were split about evenly. At the top of the list is a Skagway Discount Store in Grand Island.  Its sister store in Grand Island also made the list, along with six Hy-Vee supermarkets. The common thread among the retailers seemed to be gratitude to the loyal customers and dedicated employees. Mark Hutson, the manager of the number six store, a Lincoln Save-Mart, said his store has a lot of great customers. Some have won prizes from vacations to pickup trucks, and many have collected cash, but Hutson said it’s always “rewarding” to see one of his regulars win big....
