October 1, Maryland Ticket wins Mega Millions Jackpot

Oct. 2, 2013 – Just one ticket was sold that was able to match all six of the numbers drawn in last night’s Mega Millions drawing, making the ticket-holder $189 million richer overnight Tuesday. The Mega Millions numbers drawn Tuesday, October 1 were 7, 10, 30, 37, 53, and the Mega Ball was 1.  Last night’s Megaplier, which multiplies some non-jackpot prizes by the number drawn, was 3x. Maryland’s Mega Millions winner has 182 days to claim their prize.  If the winner chooses to take the one-time, lump-sum payment of the $189 million annuity prize, they will receive a $129.7 million payment from the Lottery. There were also six second-tier prize winners from last night’s drawing, who were able to match all five white balls drawn, though they missed the Mega Ball. Four of those tickets were sold in Arkansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, and New Jersey.  Two more winning tickets were sold in California. Because California plays all Lottery games on a pari-mutuel basis, where prizes are split according to the number of players in a game, the two Match 5 winners from California will receive $140,882 each. Those Match 5 winners who did not choose to add the Megaplier option to their tickets for an extra $1 will all receive prizes of $250,000. Prize payout information from New Jersey and Massachusetts was not immediately available Wednesday morning, though it was confirmed that the Match 5 winner in Arkansas had added the Megaplier option to their ticket. Tickets that match all five white balls and have the added Megaplier option are automatically worth $1 million. Altogether, last night’s Mega Millions drawing made winners of more than 865,000 players, and the total winnings in non-jackpot prizes climbed past $6.2 million. Ahead of Friday night’s Mega Millions drawing, the jackpot has reset to its starting value of $12 million, with a cash option worth $8...
